What to Wear to Holiday Parties

I love getting invited to holiday parties, but the fear of the dress code kills me! I’m always second-guessing myself. I want to wear the exact right thing, so I use Real Simple as my guide on dress-code etiquette:

  1. Black Tie= Old Hollywood glamour
  2. Cocktail= An elegant party dress and a killer pair of heels
  3. Festive= Razzle-dazzle
  4. Business= Office appropriate
  5. Casual Chic= Dress-up/dress-down hybrid
  6. Come as You Are= Not really-LOL-you better step it up a bit more than how you really are

How to Respond to a Party Invitation

Here’s what to do if you receive a party invitation via:

TEXT MESSAGE: RSVP within 1-24 hours. A text message invite is so casual that the party is probably only days away. This type of invite may not even require an RSVP, but it’s always polite to let your host/hostess know so they can be more prepared. B.Y.O.B.!

EMAIL: It would be polite to RSVP within 1-3 days. Alcohol will be the perfect party gift.

PHONE CALL: A phone call invite might make you feel obligated to say, “YES” on the spot. It’s better to check your calendar first so you don’t double-book yourself. Respond via phone call or give an in-person response no later than 24-72 hours. Offer to cook or bake something you’re stellar at making.

SNAIL MAIL: (I love snail mail! It’s my favorite.) Make sure to RSVP no later than the RSVP date. If they have included a response card- BE SURE not to lose it! Sometimes sending it back to the sender right away is the best way not to lose that tiny little card. Take your host/hostess something they would use in their home. A bottle of nice wine is best if you don’t know them that well.

5 Worst Email Mistakes

If you send emails and want to make sure you’re not making any mistakes, read on…

P.S. I’ve made a few of these mistakes myself- oopsy:

  1. Be careful when you’re being sarcastic. Your tone doesn’t transfer in an email. Some people may take things you say personally.
  2. Watch out for incorrect phrases. Look it up if you’re unsure. For example, “I could care less.” is incorrect. The correct phrase to use when you’re indifferent is, “I couldn’t care less.”
  3. Your business emails should always be professional. Friendly is okay, but don’t share too much information or photos that you wouldn’t send to your boss.
  4. Don’t use two sentences if one sentence will do. Be clear and if the recipient asks for a further explanation, then you’ll get your chance.
  5. Re-read your email one last time before sending. Always check your spelling and grammar

How to Organize Your Car

In case you’re not sure how to keep your car organized, here’s a list:

Things to keep in your car:

  • Dry cleaner’s pick-up ticket
  • Post-it
  • Pen x2 (sometimes one goes missing for some reason)
  • Nail file
  • Breath mints/gum
  • Floss
  • Hair pins/ties
  • Swiffer pad (for dusty dashboards)
  • Tissues
  • Hand sanitizer/wipes

Things to keep in the trunk of your car:

  • Moving blanket
  • First aid kit
  • Paper towels
  • Reusable grocery bags
  • Lint brush
  • Umbrella
  • Spare dog leash for your pet
  • Pair of flip flops
